2021 Reading Recommendations: Read on Sora

Reading books should NOT cost money! While this LibGuide serves as a BEST OF book recommendation guide, we also want to make sure that these books are easily accessible for all of our readers. Please use the resources on this page to help you find the books you want. And as always, please don't hesitate to reach out to your librarian. 

Sora is the NYCDOE-approved student reading app that provides access to our school collection, our district collection, and the public library collections (currently, you can add Queens Public Library without a library card, but Brooklyn Public Library and NYPL require a card number). In addition to browsing all of the collections, Sora is also an e-reader app. Read & listen to all your books in one place! More info about Sora is available at discoversora.com/nyc!

Tips & Tricks:

• You can download the Sora app on your device (setup code: nycschools) OR use the browser version at soraapp.com/library/nycschools
• Sign in with your username (what's before the @nycstudents.net)! Need your login and password? Need to reset a password? Student self-service is available here, or email Mrs. Chapman.  
• Step-by-step directions for accessing Sora can be found here. A video tutorial is available here. 
• Sora is available for young adult (YA), middle grades, and picture books. Adult books will only be available to grades 11+. If you having trouble locating or accessing a title, email your librarian. The search is very sensitive and will not correct for spelling errors. 
• Sora is only available for students & staff of the DOE. Parents and families are welcome to use Libby with a public library card number.
• Once you login to Sora you should add the Queens Public Library. All QPL books are immediately accessible without a library card. If you want to add your BPL or NYPL library card number, you can do that, too, and read ALL your books in one place! Don't have a BPL card or think you lost your old one? Get a new one here.)
